An official communique from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) at Koforidua was sent to authorities of Atiwa East District Assembly eliciting on the visit of the Regional Chief Director for the ERCC including the date and time of arrival.On the date of November 6th, 2024 recorded as the stipulated date in the official communique, Atiwa East District Assembly witnessed the arrival of Regional Chief Director of the ERCC in the person of Mr. Kojo Asamoah and his team and was warmly welcomed by the District Coordinating Director in the person of Shakil Mahamood Kpedau on behalf of the District Chief Executive Lawyer Kwabena Panin Nkansah and the entire staff of the assembly.The entire staff converged at the Assembly Hall with the eagerness and the burning desire to know reason(s) for the announced official visit for the very first time. The Regional Chief Director of the ERCC then stated the reason(s) for the announced official visit which is to familiarize himself with most of the district, to know the true state of the district as reported to him, and to engage the staff one on one to address some of the major outcomes of the OHLGS reassessment and monitoring report.The Chief Director began to expatiate on one of the outcomes of the OHLGS reassessment and monitoring report which is poor attitude of officers at work. He added, most of the Local Government officials are found wanting in using verbal abuse or insult on their fellow colleagues within the office spaces, to the extent of using these words on citizens during stipulated working hours. For this is the apex indication of unprofessionalism and never accepted anywhere. This statement was said after he made a punch line to the improper dressing to work of local government’s staff, and making vividly clear of the Head of Local Government not forcing anyone to wear anything not preferably to him or her but rather must be decent and not seductive to your fellow colleagues. The Chief Director continues to add more flesh to the headline poor attitude at work. The emphasis was on the lateness of staff to work. He said, staff has taken leverage on the local authorities friendliness and deliberately absenting themselves from work without any reason(s). For this behavior of staff to the local authorities has become rampant and must put an end to it.However, the director in his address, pre-notified the staff some preventive measures adopted by the OHLGS to the lateness of staff to work which is the use of a clocking device. The clocking device aim to compel staff to report to work on the stipulated time schedule OHLGS, and to effectively monitor attendance of staff including time tracking. Its high time the OHLGS do way with the use of notebooks for recording of attendance. In addition, he reminded all staff of the vacation of post if a staff fails on deliberate to report to work for 10 working days.Another punch line made by the director in his address which served as an advice was personal development. He expatiated and said, staff should take the effort to upgrade his or her educational level to at least master’s degree if only you have the interest to rise to the Local Governments professional ladder.The very last words of his address were a reminder to staff on the Local Government laydown structures during work and to refrain from politics as long as you are a member of the Local Government Services for non- compliance will be dismissal from the service. After the address of the Chief Director, the District Coordinating Director in the person of Shakil Mahamood Kpedau on behave of the DCE in the person of Hon. Kwabena Panin Nkansah and the staff, gave some feedback to some of the headlines made by the Chief Director’s address. He said with an assurance that, staff of Atiwa East District Assembly have been in compliance to the laydown Local Government structures when it comes to the internal affairs of the Assembly including coming to work on time, and decency in dressing to work. To the communication of the Assembly to the citizen indicates high level of professionalism and yet to be recorded in the books of Atiwa East District of an officer using insult or abusing words on citizen. Disagreement arises between colleagues and the citizen but always find a way to resolve those issues amicably. Depending on the seriousness of the misunderstanding, issue(s) is/are referred to the Public Relation Complaint Committee (PRCC) for resolution or to the District Court.Finally, an award was presented to Miss Benny Eunice from the Department of Internal Audit by the Regional Chief Director as a recognition of the effort of reporting to work very early.
