The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, together with all heads of Department and Agencies under the Assembly, the Ghana Education Services, and the media, joined the Chief and Elders of the Nanapa Community in the sod-cutting ceremony to officially commence a 4 to 6 self-contained teachers bungalow as a community self-help development project under the DCE’s initiatives as part of the contribution to education.
The initiative forms part of the DCE’s vision to encourage communities across the district to take an active role in their own development through self-help projects. The programme is designed to empower local communities to identify what they possess economically, captivate it, undertake priority infrastructure projects based on the outcome, and to support their living status but with technical guidance and strict supervision from the District Assembly.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting community-driven development initiatives that complement government efforts. He noted that promoting self-help projects would not only accelerate the provision of essential infrastructure but also reduce the financial burden on government while fostering a strong sense of ownership and responsibility among residents.

According to the DCE, the initiative seeks to ensure that every community has the opportunity to undertake meaningful development projects that will improve the quality of life of residents and raise living standards to acceptable levels. He emphasized that the District Assembly will continue to provide the necessary technical oversight to ensure that all projects meet the required standards and are completed successfully.
The Chief and Elders of Nanapa expressed their appreciation to the District Assembly and the DCE for championing the initiative and never thought the community would be able to commence self-major infrastructure projects. They assured the Assembly of the community’s commitment to mobilizing residents and resources to ensure the successful execution of the project.
The sod-cutting ceremony brought together traditional leaders, Assembly officials, opinion leaders, and members of the community, all of whom pledged their support towards the successful implementation of the project.
As part of its mandate to serve as the government’s eyes and ears at the grassroots level, the Information Services Department (ISD) was present to witness and document the ceremony. The Department reaffirmed its commitment to disseminating accurate and timely information on government policies, programmes, and development initiatives to the public.
The event marks another significant step in strengthening collaboration between government and local communities in advancing sustainable and inclusive development across the district.
