Atiwa East District Assembly successfully held its First Ordinary Meeting of the General Assembly under the chairmanship of the Presiding Member, Hon. Abraham Kofi Nyarko, in accordance with the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and the Standing Orders governing Assembly proceedings. The meeting brought together Honorable Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, traditional authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting the growth and development of the district.

A major highlight of the meeting was the Sessional Address delivered by the District Chief Executive, who outlined the Assembly’s achievements and strategic direction toward building a peaceful, organized, and financially resilient district. In his address, the DCE emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining peace and security through strong collaboration with security agencies and the District Security Council (DISEC). He disclosed that although isolated incidents such as theft and assault were recorded, the district continued to enjoy relative peace and stability through dialogue, mediation, and swift security interventions.

The DCE further highlighted intensified measures against illegal mining through the strengthening of the District Mining Taskforce, deployment of Blue Water Guards, and the establishment of a Ghana Gold Board District Office at Anyinam to promote responsible mining practices. Efforts to combat drug abuse, prostitution, and other social vices, supported by joint security operations and improved street lighting, were also noted as part of measures to improve public safety across communities.

On revenue mobilization, the Assembly announced that it exceeded its Internally Generated Fund targets for 2025 and sustained positive growth into the first quarter of 2026. This achievement was attributed to revenue reforms, mass mobilization exercises, sanitation and building enforcement, property data collection, and the introduction of POS-based digital payment systems aimed at improving transparency and reducing leakages.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing decongestion and beautification exercise within the Central Business District of Anyinam, which seeks to restore order, improve sanitation, reclaim pedestrian walkways, and enhance traffic management. Members of the Assembly actively participated in deliberations on development planning, education, healthcare, infrastructure, sanitation, and revenue generation before adopting recommendations to support the district’s development agenda.

The meeting ended successfully with renewed commitment by the Atiwa East District Assembly to uphold good governance, strengthen local participation, promote fiscal discipline, and accelerate sustainable development across the district.
