Atiwa East District Assembly, under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving sanitation, accessibility, and urban order in Anyinam, the district capital, through a comprehensive decongestion exercise.
This initiative aligns with the broader national vision of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, to reset and transform the country through structured development and effective local governance.
As part of a participatory approach to governance, the Assembly in August 2025 undertook a pre-decongestion engagement exercise in Anyinam. The exercise, personally led by Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim and his team, brought together residents and key community stakeholders.

The purpose of the engagement was to:
• Sensitize the public on the need for decongestion
• Gather community input and suggestions
• Build consensus on the approach to be adopted
The interaction ensured that the voices of residents were incorporated into the planning process, fostering a sense of ownership and cooperation among the people.
In a significant step towards implementation, the Assembly convened a high-level stakeholder meeting at the District Assembly Hall just yesterday. The meeting forms part of the final preparations ahead of the decongestion exercise.
The meeting brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including: the District Coordinating Director and administrative staff including the Information Services Department, the traditional leadership of Anyinam, Representatives of market women, the Anyinam Police Commander, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Head of the Local Council of Churches, Representatives of mechanics and various artisan groups
Discussions at the meeting centered on ensuring a smooth, inclusive, and well-coordinated decongestion exercise. Stakeholders shared perspectives on enforcement strategies, public education, safety considerations, and the need to protect livelihoods while restoring order within the township.
The DCE emphasized that the exercise is not intended to disrupt economic activities but rather to create a more organized, safe, and conducive environment for both businesses and residents.
With strong stakeholder backing and prior community engagement, the Atiwa East District Assembly is poised to roll out the decongestion exercise in a manner that reflects transparency, inclusiveness, and sustainability.
Residents of Anyinam are therefore encouraged to cooperate fully with the Assembly as it works towards making the district capital cleaner, safer, and more accessible for all.
