Anyinam, 17th April 2026 — The Atiwa East District Assembly Conference Room buzzed with engagement today as selected staff of the Atiwa East District Assembly participated in a landmark training workshop focused on social data protection — a critical component of modern social service delivery and citizen rights management.

The workshop, held on Thursday, 17th April 2026, was jointly organised by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), with technical facilitation provided by an independent consultant.

The training brought together selected staff from across the Atiwa East District Assembly, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical skills on how social data is collected, stored, managed, and protected in line with national policies and international best practices.

Participants were taken through key thematic areas including the legal and regulatory framework governing social data in Ghana, the ethical responsibilities of frontline staff who handle beneficiary data, data confidentiality and the rights of citizens — particularly vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, and social protection beneficiaries — as well as practical tools and systems for secure data management at the district level.

The training underscored the growing importance of data integrity in Ghana’s social protection landscape, particularly as programmes such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash transfer scheme, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Persons with Disabilities Common Fund continue to scale up and deepen their reach into communities like those within the Atiwa East District.
