The Atiwa East District Assembly met on Thursday, 30th April 2026, at the District Assembly Hall, to receive departmental briefings and approve key development resolutions for the district.

The House received reports from two key departments — Education and Agriculture — with officials presenting updates on flagship initiatives and preparations for national examinations.

Education

The District Director of Education, Madam Pearl, briefed the House on preparations underway for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), scheduled for May 2026. In her presentation, Madam Pearl outlined how the District Education Directorate has been systematically preparing pupils across the district for the high-stakes national examination.

The briefing covered structured revision programmes, teacher support efforts, and coordination between schools and the directorate to ensure candidates sit the examination in the best possible condition. The House commended the directorate’s proactive approach and wished all candidates success in the forthcoming examination.

Agriculture — Nkoko Nkititi Programme

Mr. Collins from the Agriculture Directorate briefed the House on progress made under the government’s flagship poultry initiative, Nkoko Nkititi. He reported that:

Over 2,000 birds have been successfully distributed to farmers in Anyinam, Enyirese, and surrounding communities. The programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance food security, support smallholder farmers, and stimulate agricultural productivity at the local level. The directorate is actively monitoring beneficiaries to ensure the programme achieves its intended impact.

Public Relations & Complaints

Community Issues Raised Before the House

The House received a report from the Public Relations and Complaints Unit, which presented two prevailing concerns from across the district:

  • 🏗️Unplanned Infrastructural Development. Concerns were raised about the proliferation of unauthorised and poorly planned structures in communities across the district, posing challenges for orderly planning and development.
  • 🛺Tricycle Commuting: The use of tricycles (Pragya) as an informal mode of transportation within communities was flagged as a growing issue requiring regulatory attention to ensure public safety and orderly transport operations.

 DCE Sessional Address

District Chief Executive Outlines Major Achievements & Ongoing Interventions

The District Chief Executive delivered a sessional address to the House, presenting a comprehensive account of development activities, security interventions, and social investments undertaken within the district. Key highlights include:

2,000+ Birds distributed to farmers, 250 Streetlights deployed, 19  New boreholes drilled, 50 Scholarships awarded.

Gold Board Establishment : Gold Board has been established in the district to regulate mining activities and bring greater order to the extractive sector.

Security Task Force :District Security Task Force has been constituted to combat the abuse of drugs and related security threats across communities.

250 streetlights have been distributed to communities to improve public safety and enhance nighttime visibility across the district.

Decongestion Exercise: A district-wide decongestion exercise has been carried out to address encroachments and restore order in key public areas.

24-Hour Economy Facility: Construction of a 24-hour economy facility is underway to stimulate round-the-clock commercial activity and local economic growth.

Classroom Blocks: Construction of 1 six-classroom block at Bebome 2 and 1 three-unit KG block at Anyinam Islamic to expand educational infrastructure.

50 selected students from the district have been awarded scholarships to support their pursuit of higher education.

Sanitation Equipment: Procurement of tricycles and dustbins to strengthen sanitation operations and improve waste management across the district.

19 new boreholes have been drilled in selected communities to provide residents with access to safe, potable water.

Executive Committee

Executive Committee Presents Regulatory & Infrastructure Priorities

The Executive Committee presented its report to the House, with deliberations focusing on regulatory measures and targeted infrastructure improvements to enhance safety and order in the district.

Tricycle Formalisation: Steps are being taken to formalise the operation of tricycles within the district, including licensing, route regulation, and safety compliance.

Speed Ramps: Construction of speed ramps at accident-prone locations across the district to improve road safety and reduce vehicular fatalities.

Jack Operations By-Laws:The Committee is advancing by-laws to regulate jack (loading) operations and bring greater order to commercial vehicle activity in the district.

Jejeti Police Station Renovation:Renovation of the New Jejeti Police Station to improve law enforcement infrastructure and working conditions for security personnel.
