As part of efforts to strenghten and empower its sub-structures, the Atiwa East District Assembly on 22nd October, 2020 duly inaugurated its Unit Committees and Area Councils. The colourful ceremony which was held at the auditorium of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Anyinam had in attendance the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwabena Panin Nkansah; District Coordinating Director, Mr. Simon Asare; the Presiding Member, Hon. Samuel Obeng Asamoah, Departmental and Unit Heads and a host of other dignitaries. The ceremony witnessed the swearing in of Seventy-five (75) elected Unit Committee members from the Sixteen (16) Electoral Areas in the District. They were made to swear the oath of office, secrecy and allegiance. Subsequently, the composition of the Four (4) Area Councils of the Assembly was carried out and the Sixty (60) members elected to represent the four area councils were duly sworn into office.The DCE, Hon. Kwabena Panin Nkansah in his inaugural speech, congratulated the members on their election and thanked them for accepting to serve the District. He reminded them of the tasked ahead and urged them to be diligent in executing their mandate. He underscored the need to strengthen the sub-structures to deepen governance as the local level and support the work of the Assembly. He finally highlighted their functions as contained in the LI establishing the Area Councils and Unit Committees (ie. LI 1967)The event also saw the presentation of computers and accessories, furniture and other office equipments to the four Area Councils to support the effective running of the offices. The DCE charged them to ensure proper maintenance and usage.A training session was also held for all the Unit Committee and Assembly Members to equip them with the requisite skills and competencies required to effectively carry out their mandate The chair persons of the Area Councils expressed their gratitude to the Assembly and professed their support to ensure the effective functioning of the Area Area Councils
