The NCCE Civic Education Club of Akyem Sekyere SDA Senior High School, representing the Atiwa East District, has emerged as Zonal Champions in the 69th Independence Anniversary Inter-District Zonal Quiz Competition held at Ofori Panin Senior High School, Akyem Tafo, on 9th December 2025.

The competition, organized for Zone Four, brought together five districts—Atiwa East, Atiwa West, Abuakwa South, Abuakwa North, and Fanteakwa South—in a keenly contested quiz aimed at promoting civic consciousness and deepening students’ understanding of Ghana’s democratic governance and national history.

Ahead of the zonal contest, the Atiwa East District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the management of Akyem Sekyere SDA SHS, organized an intensive preparatory training programme for members of the school’s Civic Education Club selected to represent the district.

The training was facilitated by the District Director of NCCE, Mr. Saviour Ametefe, and focused on three critical thematic areas:

Ghana’s Independence History,

The Fourth Republic of Ghana, and

Current Affairs, covering both national and global trends.

Using a blend of mock quizzes, group revision sessions, past question analyses, and rapid-response drills, the programme was designed to sharpen the students’ analytical skills, enhance speed and accuracy, and strengthen teamwork. The hands-on and interactive nature of the training significantly boosted the students’ confidence and mastery of civic concepts.

The impact of the preparatory training was evident during the zonal competition. The team from Akyem Sekyere SDA SHS displayed remarkable composure, precision, and depth of knowledge across all rounds of the contest. Their ability to respond accurately under pressure and collaborate effectively distinguished them from the other competing schools.

At the end of the competition, Akyem Sekyere SDA SHS emerged as Overall Winners, securing first place. St. Stephen’s SHS, representing Abuakwa South, placed second, while Abomosu STEM SHS came third. The host school, Ofori Panin SHS of Abuakwa North, finished fourth, with Osino Presby SHS representing Fanteakwa South placing fifth.

By virtue of this victory, Akyem Sekyere SDA SHS will represent Zone Four at the Eastern Regional Finals of the 69th Independence Anniversary Quiz Competition. The achievement underscores the importance of structured preparation, institutional collaboration, and effective civic education in nurturing informed and responsible young citizens.

The Atiwa East District NCCE Office has commended the students, facilitators, and school authorities for their commitment and teamwork, expressing confidence that the school will continue to excel at the regional level and uphold the district’s reputation for civic excellence
