
On Tuesday, 16th September 2025, the Eastern Regional Director of the Information Services Department (ISD), Miss Sethlina Adwoa Okai, led a delegation from the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) to the Atiwa East District Assembly. The visit was carried out under a directive from the Hon. Minister of State for Government Communication, Hon. Felix Owusu Kwakye, issued through the ISD Headquarters in Accra.
The visit forms part of a broader nationwide initiative to enhance communication strategies across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), ensuring a more efficient flow of information from the grassroots to central government. The ISD, as the official mouthpiece and listening post of government, is working to reposition itself as a stronger link between citizens and policymakers.
The team was welcomed by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, and the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Shakil Mahamood Kpedau. A stakeholder meeting was convened at the DCE’s office at 4:00 PM, with participation from information officers and other relevant officers.
Key discussions focused on the need to improve internal and external communication processes at the district level. Miss Okai highlighted the ISD’s renewed mandate to capture and relay timely, accurate, and community-specific information to aid in governance and development planning. She stressed that stronger communication frameworks would enable the government to better respond to local needs, enhance public education campaigns, and support national security efforts. In response to the stronger communication framework is the establishment of the Bunso platform will soon be rolled out.

The meeting also shed light on pressing challenges faced by district information officers, including inadequate logistics, staffing gaps, and coordination issues. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and propose practical solutions to improve the department’s operations.
Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim commended the initiative and pledged the Assembly’s full support in strengthening the partnership with ISD to achieve better communication outcomes for the district.
